Changan Launches Production at Rayong Plant in Thailand

Updated: Jul 15

Rayong, Thailand — May 16, 2025

Changan Automobile marked a major milestone in its global expansion journey with the official launch of production at its new manufacturing facility in Rayong, Thailand. At the same event, the company celebrated reaching a cumulative global production volume of 28.59 million vehicles. The ceremony was attended by Changan Chairman Zhu Huarong alongside government and business representatives from both China and Thailand. The milestone vehicle rolling off the production line was the right-hand drive version of the Deepal S05, developed specifically for Southeast Asia and other global RHD markets.

The Deepal S05 RHD version, unveiled at the ceremony, exemplifies Changan’s commitment to innovation and localisation.

  • Exceptional Range and Charging Efficiency: Equipped with advanced “Golden Shell” battery and 3C fast-charging (50% in just 15 minutes), the range-extended version delivers over 1,000 km of combined range.

  • Smart Driving Technology: Features include remote parking and intelligent thermal management designed for hot climates across Southeast Asia.

  • Regulatory Excellence: Deepal became the first EV brand to meet Thailand’s “56-2562” local certification standard, securing tax incentives and contributing to the harmonisation of Thai and international EV standards.

Changan’s strategy is already delivering results — the Deepal S7 ranked as Thailand’s top-selling all-electric SUV in 2024, and at the 2025 Bangkok Motor Show, pre-orders exceeded 6,589 units. Looking ahead, Changan plans to launch 12 new energy vehicle (NEV) models across pure electric, range-extended, and hybrid segments in Southeast Asia over the next three years.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of China–Thailand diplomatic relations, Changan is deepening its localisation efforts. The Rayong plant is expected to create over 30,000 jobs across its supply chain, foster a resilient dual-cycle supply network, and host a Thai spare parts hub with 24-hour delivery capabilities. AI-powered maintenance, remote diagnostics, and the introduction of humanoid robots and flying vehicles are also in the pipeline.
