About the Role

Powertrain test technician at CAUK’s test house who will lead operation of engine, powertrain and vehicle test cells, installation, cell maintenance and development, testing and data collection and output. This role will encompass a wide variety of automotive vehicle and powertrain testing activities including power electronics and hydrogen fuel cell/ hydrogen ICE testing.

Requirements

Person Specification

At least 2 years experience of automotive engineering in a technical role is required, especially working with powertrains/vehicles. This could be from an engine test site or from vehicle work at automotive manufacturers or vehicle service centre. Previous experience of automotive power electronics and hydrogen would be beneficial. Maintenance and calibration of measurement equipment is desirable.


Education & Qualification

  • BTEC Level 3 or ONC, NQF level 3 or equivalent in a technical discipline (Essential)


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Accurate repeatable instrumentation fitment onto powertrains & vehicles

  • Installations of powertrain components into vehicles & test cells

  • Fault finding on the vehicle powertrain and test cell equipment

  • Operation of the engine and test cell both manually and using the automation system (Cadet V14 and AVL PUMA, INDICOM, ETAS INCA)

  • Obtaining test data and initial analysis and interpretation of test results

  • Leading testing activities and working closely with project teams.

  • Support hardware and software utilised for engine testing (e.g. emissions analysers, indicating equipment etc.)

  • Ownership of data output from test cells

  • Day-to-day maintenance and improvement of test cells

  • Fabrication, maintenance, and rebuilds to support project activities

  • Support calibration of test cells and hardware to improve test data quality

  • Contribute on advanced testing projects including vehicle projects
