About the Role

Powertrain Test Engineer at CAUK’s test house who will be responsible for project testing, including the setup, operation and data collection for both test rig based and vehicle-based testing. This role will encompass a variety of automotive vehicle and powertrain systems including: Power electronics; E-machines; Transmissions; Hydrogen fuel cell; ICE.

Requirements

Previous experience of automotive engineering in a technical role is required, especially working with conventional  powertrains and Electric vehicles. This could be from a powertrain test site or from vehicle work at automotive manufacturer. Previous experience of automotive power electronics and hydrogen would be beneficial. Maintenance and calibration of measurement equipment is desirable.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leading testing activities and working closely with project teams

  • Test planning, definition and setup

  • Instrumentation requirements, data acquisition and analysis

  • Fault finding on the vehicle powertrain and test cell equipment

  • Setup and use of engine and transmission test cells for both manual and automated operation

  • Knowledge of powertrain test automation systems preferably Cadet V14 and AVL PUMA, INDICOM, ETAS INCA)

  • Scripting of tests for automated and repeated testing

  • Ownership of the test setups including interaction with software team for setup of rig enabling signals

  • Practical knowledge of vehicle networks and architecture (CAN, CAN-FD)

  • Develop test rig capability including in house developed systems

  • Understand low voltage and Hazardous voltage vehicle systems including PHEV, HEV and BEV vehicle architectures

  • Working knowledge of calibration tools such as ETAS INCA, Vector CANape etc.

  • Support hardware and software utilised for engine testing (e.g. emissions analysers, indicating equipment etc.)

  • Ownership of data output from test cells

  • Support calibration of test cells and hardware to improve test data quality

  • Contribute on advanced testing projects including vehicle projects
