About the Role
Take a leading role in Electrical Machine technology specification, control and integration into xEV automotive vehicle applications.
Provide technical background to support powertrain and vehicle performance simulation leading to technology selection and function verification.
Requirements
The successful candidate will likely hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in automotive, Electrical or Electronics Engineering
Strong background in Electrical Machine design coupled with an Integration and test background:
In-depth knowledge of Electrical Machine technologies and their integration to Hybrid and BEV automotive applications
Detailed knowledge of electrical machine topologies and their drive control
Knowledge of electromagnetic theory of electrical machines and motor control theory
A detailed understanding of electrical machine attributes including performance, NVH, cost
A thorough understanding of electrical machine thermal management approaches
Motor inverter design and motor control with emphasis on Automotive traction and generation motors
Detailed knowledge of electrical machine power electronic drives
Communication protocol: CAN/ CAN FD
AutoSpice Quality standards
Electrical Machine design simulation: Matlab/Simulink, Mathcad, Motorcad, Fluxmotor to accurately model electrical machine and system performance
HW Test: Test case design and test equipment, oscilloscope, etc
EMC and reliability: Test and debug
Experience in Automotive Powertrain Control Development would be an advantage
Strong numeracy and literacy skills, including the ability to write clear documentation
Excellent communication skills and able to work as part of a cross-functional team
Able to demonstrate a good understanding of system engineering processes
Experience of control system development using MiL, HiL and prototype vehicles
Capable of performing robustly in a dynamic environment
Proven track record of delivering within demanding deadlines
Direct experience is essential with preferably some of this within the Automotive Industry
Working knowledge of Functional Safety Standard ISO26262 would be an advantage
Experience of working with hybrid and battery electric vehicles would be an advantage
Experience of undertaking DFMEA at System and Sub-System level, with good logical reasoning
Able to operate within a team to strive for improvements and high customer service
Evidence of achieving results through effective self-motivation and prioritization
An ability to overcome cultural barriers
Duties & Responsibilities
Lead Electrical Machine technology selection
Lead and generate Electrical Machine Technical specification
Lead Electrical Machine Simulation
Lead Electrical Machine functional test specification
Support Powertrain performance simulation at both powertrain and vehicle level
Support Powertrain Hardware, Software and Control Integration
Support Automotive Electronic Powertrain Control System development for future Changan Vehicles
Work within a team of engineers in the UK and provide support to engineers based offshore
Support the buildup of an in-depth understanding of Electronic Powertrain Control System interactions other vehicle systems
Actively support effective communication with various teams to ensure that requirements are adequate and achievable.
Working closely with the safety and diagnostic teams to ensure fault reaction strategy is both adequate and achievable
Support the development of documented Test Procedures to effectively validate control strategies on HiL , Rig and prototype vehicles
Work closely with multidiscipline teams to ensure right first-time control systems
Support the development and delivery of electronic control architectures for diverse variants of powertrain architecture including hybrid, BEV
