Job Purpose

Design and develop Hardware in loop system architecture, real-time models, test automation, configuration management, and mentoring the junior team members on verification and validation activities.

Personal Specification


  • 1st class degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Ideally has a minimum of 8+ years relevant automotive system integration and testing experience
  • Must have relevant experience in design and development of HiL setups for control software verification and validation. Automotive experience preferred but consideration will be given to candidates with relevant experience from other industries (e.g. aerospace, rail)
  • Must have experience in deriving functional test cases and verification methods from system level requirements
  • Must have experience in test automation using python. Desirable to have expertise on ECU-Test, Automation Desk, Test weaver etc
  • Must have real time model development and integration experience using MATLAB, Simulink or other industry standard tools
  • Must have experience in simulation and testing vehicle communication networks based on CAN/Flexray/Ethernet etc
  • Preferred experience in wiring harness design and development
  • Preferred experience in configuration management tools used for version controlling of plant models, test scripts and relevant test configurations
  • Preferred experience in software tool development to support testing activities
  • Maintaining and developing strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • Good logical reasoning
  • Motivation to learn new technologies and employ systems engineering principles
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work within a team


  • Experience in EV or hybrid domain, HV energy management
  • Knowledge on Auto SPICE development processes
  • Knowledge on Vehicle diagnostics, for example, ISO14229 and UDS specifications
  • Familiarity with ISO26262 or equivalent functional safety standards

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain HIL facilities to support control software validation for current and future vehicle programs
  • Work closely with simulation team in plant model development and integration activities on HIL systems
  • Develop and maintain a modular plant model architecture to be used across multiple powertrain projects
  • Support in terms of HiL setup preparation, integration with Test cell environment for Powertrain level testing activities
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of HIL system hardware and software components
  • Development of automated test facilities including the capability of fault insertion and diagnostic facilities in support of system integration and verification.
  • Perform verification and validation testing on HIL, to include test design, analysis, reporting and issue management.
  • Develop test methodology against system requirements, test automation, execution and reporting.
  • Co-operation with our HIL team in HQ to ensure best practice is learnt and applied by both teams.
  • Problem investigation and resolution.
  • Supporting hazard and safety analysis based on ISO26262
  • Support identifying the opportunities and use case generation to expand the V&V activities into other powertrain areas
  • Enhance the test automation capabilities to include more functional testing as part of regression testing activities
  • Develop new tools and test methods with documentation in line with latest trends in Simulation, Test and Validation field

Other Features of job

  • Role-based in the UK with core CAUK team. Occasional travel to other CA sites, on development trips and to visit suppliers is a requirement.
