Job Purpose

As a Functional Safety Engineer, you will follow the entire development from high level analysis of hazards, through to developing the safety requirements of our products.  You will work with our internal software engineers and external suppliers to develop safe hardware and software systems and provide the best performance for our customers.  The work will continue through to the integration phase, which will involve validating the powertrain systems through rigorous testing activities. 

Personal Specification

• Degree qualified or similar qualification
• Strong numeracy and literacy skills, including ability to write clear documentation
• 3-5 years of relevant industry experience
• Excellent communication skills and able to work as part of a cross functional team
• Familiarity with ISO 26262, IEC 61508 or similar Functional Safety standards
• Previous experience of working on the development of safety relevant control systems
• Experience of developing associated diagnostic requirements and strategies associated with Functional Safety implementation
• Experience working with powertrain systems including hybrid and battery electric vehicles
• Experience of undertaking DFMEA at System and Sub-System levels

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Functional safety development according to the ISO 26262 standard
• Work with internal software engineers and external suppliers to develop safe hardware and software systems
• Validate powertrain systems through rigorous testing activities during the integration phase
• Work planning and status reporting to management
• Cascade safety requirements to subsystems and component levels
• Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders on functional safety
• Undertake reviews with product teams, ensuring functional safety standards are complied with throughout product development cycles
• Support the implementation of Functional Safety requirements and associated diagnostics in software and hardware subsystems
