Changan UK R&D Centre - based in the Midlands is currently recruiting for an Hardware Engineer. This is an exciting career opportunity within a growing, large international car manufacturer.

Core Requirements

• Qualification: BSc or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

• Experience: 5 years post graduate.

• Background: Ideally Automotive, Aerospace or Rail Industry or similar Development Environment.

• Knowledge: Thorough understanding of Control Systems, Sensors, Actuators, and Electrical Systems, both theoretical and practical.

• Sound knowledge of vehicle communication networks eg. LIN, SENT, CAN, FlexRay.

• Sound knowledge and understanding of Product Development Processes.

• Analytical and methodical work ethic.

• Capable of leading a project element with support from more senior staff when necessary.

• Strong numeracy and literacy skills.

• Good communication, information transfer and inter-personal skills with practical, pro-active hands on approach.

• Capable of working efficiently as part of a small team to tight deadlines.

• Capable of working within a cross functional team environment.

• Strong ability to work independently and use own initiative.

• Strong project management skills within a team environment to achieve successful project delivery.

• Good working knowledge of Matlab/Simulink.

Main Activities/Tasks:

• Generate Specifications and Development Requirements of Controllers, Sensors and Actuators for use in Automotive Control Systems.

• Develop the electrical architecture required to support complex Automotive Control Systems.

• Manage the verification and validation of Controllers, Sensors and Actuators with external suppliers, some of whom will be Internationally located.

• Assist in the development of a HiL System.

• Participate in DFMEA Reviews and able to support corrective action measures.

• Operate as the single point of contact for Tier1/2  sensor and actuator suppliers.

• Liaise with Engineers from other disciplines for requirements capture and manage the supplier deliverables in accordance with an overall project plan.

Other Features of Job

• A working knowledge of ISO 26262 Functional Safety would be a distinct advantage.

• Understanding of cross-functional OEM processes for procuring and managing parts supply.

• Understanding of Automotive Transmission and associated components would be advantage.

• An appreciation of Hydraulic Systems in an Automotive environment would be distinct advantage.

Core Requirements:

• Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (Engineering or Computer Science)

• Ability to research and develop engineering processes, methods and tools.

• Ability to understand and implement Requirements Engineering and Model Based concepts into practising projects.

• Good core programming skills in at least one main stream programming language. Some experience of Ruby would be ideal.

Main Activities/tasks:

• Supporting the development, Integration and maintenance of PCE Processes, Methods and Tools.

• Rolling out capability improvement throughout the team (Nationally and Internationally). 

PCE Process, Methods and Tools Support

• Providing in-project support to key projects, during the key development phases, tailored to project needs to ensure maximum project benefit is obtained from Process, Methods and Tools.

• Supporting implementation of a Systems Engineering approach on a number of key projects through a phased Process Improvement programme.

• Supporting the assessment, integration and development of  Systems Engineering tools to deliver MBSE, Requirement Management, Simulation & Modelling  and CM capabilities.

• Assist in the design and implementation of  tool configuration and integration

• Assist in training delivery on Process, Method and tool usage to the PCE Team.

• Carry out investigations into a full range of problems, issues or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team.

• Keep up to date in relevant technical areas, develop skills and capabilities to be able to provide more effective services (seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices), and supply technical support and expertise to others as required.

• Manage and report against the group’s work programmes, including analysis of risk, to ensure the group delivers its accountabilities

• Ensures that the appropriate process, methods and standards are applied and are reviewed / updated as technology progresses.

• Supporting benchmarking and requirement capture activities. 

•  Supporting  hazard and safety analysis. 

• Support development and use of new technologies within the department.
