Job Purpose

To be the technical lead for fuel cell research and development at Changan UK, a ‘start-up’ opportunity offering a wide scope for responsibility and growth for the right candidate.

Personal Specification 

  • An excellent understanding of fuel cell stacks, the electrochemistry and physics involved, the corollary systems and how to control them to achieve the required attributes.
  • Experience of defining engineering requirements, test specifications and testing hydrogen fuel cell systems on test rigs and in vehicle.
  • An excellent grasp of the safety legislation for developing Electric and Hydrogen powertrain vehicles.
  • Have a good understanding of Hybrid or EV Powertrain technology (Engine, Battery, E-Machine, Inverter)
  • Working knowledge of vehicle and system attributes, attribute balancing and associated technology trends.
  • Experience gained working for an Automotive OEM and with a Supplier or vice-versa.
  • Project management experience is an advantage.
  • The ability to work internationally with an open mindset, being adaptable to varied cultural approaches.
  • Good understanding of powertrain development process, research, advanced engineering & product development.
  • An understanding of ISO9001 and IATF16949 an advantage.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and work with the team at Changan to define the research and development activity for the application of fuel cell powertrains in Changan vehicles.
  • Evaluate technology and suppliers of fuel cell powertrain components and to work with suppliers to develop great products for Changan Automobile for global markets.
  • To create technical requirements, specifications and supplier statements of work.
  • Define test specifications for fuel cell systems, planning and conducting the same.
  • To work with the Changan powertrain controls team to define controls requirements.
  • To provide technical guidance to Changan targets and controls simulation teams.
  • Perform system failure mode and effects analysis.
  • Support risk assessments and the development safe systems of work at Changan UK.
  • To assist in training of Staff in the understanding of Fuel Cell Systems.
  • Conduct research and studies for New Energy Vehicle Powertrains trends.
  • Carry out research into Governmental laws and regulations.

  • Primary location will be at Birmingham Business Park
  • Travel may be required but depends on project requirement
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK
