Senior or Principal Engineer - Hybrid Powertrain Diagnostic Strategy Engineer

Job Purpose

Support a growing team for Diagnostic analysis and design of Hybrid Powertrains, pioneering the Changan  Diagnostic Engineering approach, by the application of Diagnostic methods to ensure product reliability and safety is at the core of future developments. 

You must have a broad vehicle system knowledge and a good understanding of system interaction within a Hybrid Electrical Powertrain. You will also have a process driven, quality mind-set supported by technical expertise with excellent communication and presentation skills.

Having previous experience of Diagnostic Strategy Design, DFMEA and requirements capture tools to develop Diagnostic systems would be a plus.

Personal Specification

  • Experience required
    • Bachelor Degree in a relevant scientific field with certain years of post graduate experience with preferably some of this in automotive Powertrain development

                   or  Master Degree in a relevant scientific field with certain years of post graduate experience with preferably some of this in automotive Powertrain development

  • Logical thinker
  • Strong numeracy and literacy, including ability to write clear documentation
  • Excellent communication skills and able to work as part of a cross functional team
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the diagnostic processes
  • Broad knowledge of vehicle and powertrain systems
  • Capable of performing robustly in a dynamic environment
  • Proven ability of delivering within demanding deadlines
  • Able to overcome cultural barriers

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Capturing Diagnostic functional requirements through DFMEA (FTA), Sequence Diagram and Use-Case studies.
  • Detailing TCU (Transmission Control Unit) and PCU (Powertrain Control Unit) failure handling functions.
  • Prepare technical specifications for Software team to implement the requirements.
  • Support MIL/HIL Diagnostic validation to ensure the requirements are met to the specification.
  • Prepare Diagnostic calibration for each Application Software releases.
  • Working closely with Hardware, Software and System Design team.
  • Handling Transmission component failures by TCU and PCU due to architectural split of Transmission functions.
  • Master (PCU) and Slave (TCU) communication during Transmission component failure handling.
  • Responsibilities TCU failure detection, TCU failure handling and PCU failure handling under Transmission component failure.
  • Good understanding of CAN Architecture and knowledge of CANalyzer, CANoe.DIVA, CANdela Studio would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of PCU failure detection, PCU failure handling and TCU failure handling under PCU Hardware component failure is desirable.
  • Knowledge of UDS protocol would be desirable.
  • Review team output and project deliverables to ensure accuracy and completeness to the expected standard.
  • Support project progress review with senior management

Other Features of job

  • Role based in UK with core CAUK team. Occasional travel to other CA sites, on development trips and to visit suppliers is a requirement
