Job Purpose

Lead control system specification, design and integration for all Engine Control related projects

Personal Specification

  • 1st degree or equivalent in automotive, electrical/electronic, mechanical or control engineering.
  • Must have certain years relevant experience in an automotive environment
  • Maintaining and developing strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • Good logical reasoning and problem investigation/resolutionProven experience of working on Engine Control system projects.
  • Experience of specification and integration of at least one engine control system in a high volume automotive application.
  • Experience of design and implementation of engine control system software would be a distinct advantage.
  • Ideally experience of gasoline engine control systems but will also consider relevant diesel and other fuel applications.
  • Detailed understanding of full Control System development cycle.
  • Understanding of automotive sensor/actuator component requirements and specifications.
  • Proven experience generating FMEAs for automotive systems and utilising automotive industry quality tools.
  • Preferred working knowledge of Matlab/Simulink and calibration tools
  • Familiar with CAN analysis tools (e.g. Canalyser), calibration tools (INCA preferred), instrumentation and data loggers
  • Experience of Model Based System Engineering and SysML language would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work in cross functional teams.
  • Proven ability to overcome cultural barriers
  • Full UK driving license

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead small team to specify system requirements (functional and non-functional) for engine control system and components and develop associated DFMEA’s and DVPs.
  • Specify engine control software functions and support prototype development for both conventional and New Energy powertrain.
  • Lead small team to carry out EMS integration activities and application at both engine and vehicle level.
  • Work closely with engine development and engine calibration teams to ensure delivery of complete system.
  • Support functional safety development and analysis.

Other Features of job

  • Lead a small Engine Control System team working with a much larger integrated multifunctional product team which is responsible for delivering complete gasoline engine systems.
  • Role based in the UK. Occasional travel to other CA sites and to visit suppliers is a requirement.
