Job Purpose

The successful candidate will lead the Engine Department to Design, Analyse, Test & Develop new engines and technologies to meet Changan’s future needs.  They will also be responsible for the operation of the department covering areas such as recruitment, staff management, budgets.  They will help to lead projects, executed either in the UK or jointly with China.  They will work with colleagues in the UK and China to develop plans and strategies for both the UK and China related to future engines, technologies, Powertrain integration and implementation.  As a Senior member of the CAUK management team he will assist the GM with the development and implementation of CAUK policies and procedures.

Personal Specification

  • Minimum Engineering degree qualified or a similar qualification.
  • Strong numeracy and literacy.
  • Good communication, information transfer and inter-personal skills with a practical and pro-active hands on approach.
  • Capable of working efficiently as part of a small team to tight and changing deadlines.
  • Capable of leading projects being implemented in multiple locations.
  • Capable of working with & leading a multi-national team across multiple time zones
  • Effective team member contributing to improvements and high customer service.
  • Substantial experience in a leadership role in a Powertrain role, with broad experience in Engines technology, application, project & people management

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To lead the Engine Department on a daily basis covering the areas of Design, Analysis, NVH, Test & Development
  • Lead engine projects in the UK
  • Collaborate & support colleagues in China on joint projects
  • Provide advice and guidance to colleagues in China on all matters related to Engines & the processes related to their design/development on request
  • Manage the operational aspects of the department; personnel, budgets, procurement & other resources
  • Work with colleagues in the UK and China to develop plans and strategies for both the UK and China related to future engines, technologies, Powertrain integration and implementation
  • Work with other members of the UK management team and the General Manager to guide the on-going development of Changan UK as a company
  • Work collaboratively with other departments on the integration of engine as a part of the Powertrain and with its installation into the vehicle

Other Features of job

  • Normal place of employment is Birmingham. Business trips to China (and other global locations) will be a routine and necessary part of the role
