Changan UK R&D Centre - based in the Midlands is currently recruiting for a CFD Engineer.  This is an exciting career opportunity to work within a World Leading Powertrain R&D Centre.

Personal Specification:

  • HND, Degree qualified or similar qualification.
  • Certain years engine CAE experience mainly related to 3D CFD analysis of the internal flow inside the engine such as port flow, water jacket flow, in-cylinder flow, spray mixing, combustion, intake and exhaust system, breather system, lube channel and cooling channel etc.
  • Proficient use of Star-CCM+ and/or Fluent. Ability of using GT-Suite is plus.
  • Be familiar with working principle of engine combustion, emission, heat transfer and fluid mechanism. Ability not just to do the analysis but also to develop and implement the best-in-class simulation methodology and to set target on major attributes such as tumble, flow coefficient, pressure loss and flow uniformity etc. according to engine performance requirement
  • Good communication, information transfer and inter-personal skills with practical, pro-active hands on approach.
  • Capable of working efficiently as part of a small team to tight deadlines.
  • Capable of leading a project element with support from more senior staff when necessary.
  • Good knowledge of engine design, development, validation and test processes and their relationship with CAE processes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership on major flow related CAE practices and process documents and develop further according to company’s long term technology strategy.
  • Perform the CFD analysis including but not limited to intake and exhaust ports, in-cylinder flow, breather system, water jacket, intake and exhaust systems, lubrication and cooling systems with clear understanding of major engine functional requirements.
  • Perform fluid/solid co-simulation to get heat transfer and metal temperature mapped.
  • Support the new engine design and development by providing the system optimisation within project timing plan.
  • Keep research on new CFD related technology to ensure competitive methods used.
  • Get involved in design and development process to ensure needed tests to be requested in advance (including instrumental list) so proper correlation can be done in time.
  • Set analysis requirement such as boundary conditions and deliverables for supplier, third party or junior engineers.
